Our Mission

Germany Rieslings is an independent educational platform and reference database designed to make German wine easier to understand. Riesling is produced across dry, off-dry, and sweet styles, with results shaped by origin, vintage, producer decisions, and the individual bottle.

Editorial Standards & Primary Sources

We aim to ground legal, classification, regional, and producer-specific statements in identifiable primary sources, including:

  • German Federal Wine Law (Weingesetz & Weinverordnung): Statutory regulations governing Protected Designations of Origin (g.U.), Prädikat must weight thresholds (°Oe), chaptalization laws, and residual sugar/acidity parameters.
  • Deutsches Weininstitut (DWI / Wines of Germany): Official national harvest statistics, surface area (hectares), meteorological data, and international marketing standards.
  • VDP.Die Prädikatsweingüter: The classification charter, yield restrictions, and Grosse Lage/Erste Lage vineyard boundaries established by Germany’s historic association of elite wine estates.
  • Viticultural & Enological Research Institutions: Technical findings and climate adaptation studies from Hochschule Geisenheim University and state viticultural institutes (DLR Rheinpfalz, DLR Mosel).

Practical, Bounded Analysis

We separate regulated terms, voluntary classifications, published technical data, and editorial judgment. Where figures vary by bottle or source, the page should say so.

  • Wine analysis: Bottle-specific residual sugar, acidity, alcohol, and producer data when a reliable source publishes them.
  • Origin: Regional geology, climate, and vineyard context without treating soil as a direct flavor recipe.
  • Vintage context: Published growing-season and harvest information, with drinking guidance presented as editorial rather than guaranteed.
