Rheingau Wine Region

Experience the aristocratic heartland of German Riesling, where legendary estates like Schloss Johannisberg pioneered the world's first late-harvest wines along a perfectly positioned south-facing Rhine river amphitheater.

About Rheingau

The Rheingau represents the aristocratic heart of German wine, where Riesling first gained international recognition and commanded prices higher than First Growth Bordeaux in the 19th century. This compact 3,200-hectare region benefits from a unique geographical gift: the Rhine River flows west for 30 kilometers, creating an uninterrupted south-facing slope protected by the Taunus Mountains. Here, noble estates with centuries of history craft both powerful dry Rieslings and legendary sweet wines, including the world's first Spätlese, discovered at Schloss Johannisberg in 1775.

Sweet wines develop honeyed complexity with beeswax, candied citrus, and spiced dried fruit. The broad Rhine creates fuller-bodied wines than Mosel.
