- Germany has exactly 13 official wine regions for quality wine.
- Legal sweetness terms: trocken (≤ 4 g/L residual sugar, or ≤ 9 g/L when RS ≤ acidity + 2), halbtrocken (≤ 12 g/L, or ≤ 18 g/L when RS ≤ acidity + 10), lieblich (≤ 45 g/L), süß (> 45 g/L). Feinherb is a producer term, not a legal category.
- Prädikat levels (by minimum must weight): Kabinett, Spätlese, Auslese, Beerenauslese, Eiswein, Trockenbeerenauslese. Prädikat is not a sweetness level.
- VDP tiers: Gutswein, Ortswein, Erste Lage, Grosse Lage; Grosses Gewächs (GG) is the dry wine from a Grosse Lage site.
